We had a backyard visitor today - a Cooper's Hawk sitting in the crab apple tree keeping a close eye on the bird feeders nearby waiting for lunch to arrive. Cooper's Hawks and Sharp-shinned Hawks are opportunists and take advantage of easy pickin's with one of their favorite food - small birds at bird feeders. Hawks need to eat to stay alive, so I have no problem with this visitor, but the birds sure scatter when one arrives. (Click or tap the image to see larger.) |
