The exposure of the image in the camera can be tricky on a day like this. Bright sky, bright white new snow and lots of white feathers on the Owl. If using the automatic settings on the camera, the light meter will cause the photo to be very grey because it averages the light entering the lens. I find on my Canon camera I need to compensate by letting more light in to the camera, overriding the basic light meter settings by 2/3 to one stop more light by using a slower shutter speed or wider lens f/stop opening to lighten the image. With a Nikon camera this may not be necessary. Every camera and camera brand is a little bit different.
