It snowed about four inches of fine light snow in North Iowa, then the temperature dropped and the winds picked up to blizzard conditions, driving the snow like frozen needles hitting the skin. As the sun got lower in the late afternoon the southwestern sky was bright orange with the sunlight refracting off of the airborne snow crystals. Just as the sun approached the horizon it shot a shaft of orange light straight up in the air, making a spectacular frozen sunset. [Click images to see larger] |
