A juvenile Sharp-Shinned Hawk in the backyard. I have driven many miles and hundreds of miles to take pictures of birds, and then this guy shows up at our feeders trying to make a meal out of a sparrow or two. He made several unsuccessful attempts to snatch a smaller bird, but they scattered or hid in the evergreen shrubs. I took a few photos through the window and then as he perched scouting for the next victim I quietly walked out on the deck and was able to get some better photos. I was surprised that he didn't fly while I took several photos. In the end, I'm not sure if he was successful in capturing his prey. A treat for us to see and to be able to get photos of a nice raptor in the backyard. |
